Papa Haydn East |
In 1978, the Westmorland end of Milwaukie Avenue in east Portland witnessed the beginning of what would be a legendary tale. Papa Haydn East, the original Papa Haydn restaurant, location of Portland's first espresso machine and most popular European inspired deli and dessert counter, opened up Portland's eyes to the beautiful and delicious combination of traditional and sustainable restaurant practices. Since then, we've never looked back, but only ahead to what our future hold's within Portland's city streets.

Sunflowers In Our Garden |
As the original location, we have established, maintained, and cherished our customers who have come to mean as much as family. From making wedding cakes for our first customer's children, to tending our on site garden, and serving up fresh local dishes -- we are proud to have been serving Portland for almost 4 decades.

Our Back Yard |
Today, we cherish our heritage and our roots here in Portland through you -- our community, by celebrating the bounty of fresh local ingredients the Pacific Northwest has to offer. From farm to fork, the European style of cooking has infused itself into our foods and desserts here in Portland since the day we opened.

Cocktail Hour! |
So while "staying local" may be the new food fad to come through Portland, we are happy to say that has always been the backbone of our existence and we are thrilled to continue to share it with you. See you soon!
